Ted Talk Art in Exile
Shirin Neshat is very outspoken about politics in Iran. She uses her talent and art to bring attention to the plight of the women in Iran. Women in the Middle east are often abused and treated as second class citizens. Things have started to get better for womens rights. But women are still treated very poorly. I know there was a recent case in Saudia Arabia where a women was raped by a group of men but was then sentenced to 40 lashes or something of the like. She got a lawyer and they complained and she was then given something like 5 years in jail. Its really unfortunate how many countries that practice Islam seem to be very archaic and backwards in their laws. Women are still being stoned by these religious extremists who use Islam as their excuse to gain power.
