Inquiry Project Pre-Proposal

Currently I'm researching about hip-hop/rap music, but I don't know what aspect of this genre of music that I want to explore. I'm either leaning towards the causes and effects of the hip-hop culture on an individual, or how this genre changed the face of commercial music and what it has become. I have more information on the effects of the hip hop culture, an example from my 3rd research memo is: "Subsequent research examined the relationships among empowering and risky rap music (self) engagement, age, gender, ethnic identity, self-esteem and depressive symptoms (Travis and Bowman 2012 b). Here, research suggested that individual and community empowerment constructs were also significantly associated with developmentally relevant concepts such as ethnic identity (Travis and Bowman 2012 b)" while the research I have gathered provides some background information, it's not enough to make any conclusions, argument, or even to chose my set topic for this project.
