Hispanic Stories:

From interviews of teens and young adults who came to America from Mexico early in life they do not seem to like or fit into the American culture. One of them said they've been in America for so long they don't fit in the Mexican culture, and they still don't fit into the American culture so they just feel like an outsider. They felt like they have left their culture. In Persepolis, Marjane feels similar feelings when she leaves Iran to Austria. In Austria she presented herself differently with the way she dressed, wore makeup, and showed her hair. She did certain things she wouldn't have and couldn't have done in the culture of Iran. She became ashamed of herself, and steered away from talking about her Austria experience with people in Iran. She felt like she lost her true identity that her grandmother told her to keep before she left. She changed with the Austrian culture. When she returned to Iran she became very depressed.
