India has had a very strict system of castes throughout its history. They do not accept many minorities or lower class people. There was a certain group of people in India called the untouchables who were completely shunned and discriminated in their society. My problem with Kavita's talk is that she focuses entirely on women and she makes it a personal or selfish take on it. There are about 1.2 billion people in India with the largest percentage of people living below the poverty line at 42%. Obviously I don't mean to downplay womens rights its a very important thing and that all women should have the same rights as men. I think India has deep seeded problems with discrimination and that its part of the culture but I just think that if you're going to fight for one groups rights you need to think about the other people who are also disadvantaged. You can't just take a human problem and make it a female problem.
