What does it means to be a firefighter? I will spend my entire life trying to figure it out. In my limited experience as a volunteer firefighter I have developed a small understanding of what this means. Firefighters as a whole fit a certain persona but I have found that there is great diversity within this small group of people. However there are still a few fundamental values that firefighters hold true. In this paper I would like to explore these traits of firefighters and what events have shaped the values of past and current day firefighters.
Interesting how you note diversity in the group of firefighters you interact with. I wonder if its any different from similar worthwhile professions like being a cop and if they look for similar traits in the individuals or different ones? firefighters for example are notorious for team work being one piece of a whole similar to a military infantry position while police are considerably less known for (although its still there in large quantities)
