Inquiry Project, Future of Rugby in America
My inquiry project is about the future of rugby in the United States and North America. With the addition of rugby sevens into the Olympics in Rio in 2016, rugby has been gaining popularity at a very quick pace. Part of my research has gone into the corporate aspect and how once big investors such as the NFL and other big European companies are trying to establish a league in the US and North America which is a vastly untapped and potentially huge market. Canada who could be a great team and potential power in rugby has been hindered by the lack of good teams in the US. Basically the whole continent of North America needs to establish rugby and create competition to become successful. Argentina has a very good team who could also benefit from the addition of a strong American and Canadian team. Rugby in America has drawn attention to investors looking to create a strong league and with the addition of sevens in the Olympics will become a very feasible option.

The biggest thing that makes rugby not appealing in america is the lack of breaks. Football is king because of how much it revolves around stoppage in game time which means there is money to be made with advertising. In other cultures sports are huge, in american culture advertising and pop-culture overshadow everything.
