Our group decided to discuss Marjane Satrapi's ways of rebelling while growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution and how doctors now explain why teens rebel. We felt that it was important to touch on how Marjane wanted to be independent and tested authority often. She tried hard to be her own person in the way she dressed, regardless of the Regime always being on the watch and tended to do exactly opposite of what told to do by her parents. This article explains the development of the prefrontal cortex during the teenage years, meaning they can now develop their own ideals, leading to the stereotypical teenage arguments with their parents. It touches on the use of clothing, tattoos, piercings, etc. as a way to show passing into adolescence, which is something Marjane used, more so with the clothing going into preadolescence.
I really enjoyed reading these sources. I think Marjane was extremely brave to no conform and or very ignorant. I mean she had the threat of dying at almost ever second for not conforming to the progressive life style. It's brave but almost not very smart. I do however think Marjane was brave because she decided to express her self.
