Let them eat cake?

 http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/biography/marieantoinette.html

When Eve is first kidnapped in V For Vendetta she is hesitant to be calm at first. But when V gives her some huggy toast made with real butter, she begins to warm up to V. When she is eating the toast though she exclaims it has been ages since she has had real butter. Like butter has become too expensive and sparse. Earlier in the movie new reporters also say that water coupons will become more expensive. It seems that the citizens in this era have begun to mirror a darker time in Europe's history. The age of France’s King Louis XVI and his bride Marie Antoinette, who famously said "let them eat cake" to her starving citizen who could not afford to by bread, which is a staple to the french. But the Queen always had enough money to through lavished parties and buy the most current fashions. She ate feast and help parties as her people died of starvation. Like the infamous chancellor who has armored trains delivering his food to him or is nightly milk and cookies. The higher ups are using the money they have obtained to buy all the good food and supplies while the common people are left with poor substitutes. The people deserve better then scraps and substitutes of real food. Like the french people of old, so do the English citizens rise up against there horrible rulers who think that because they have a fancy title, that they are better then the people they serve. True rulers do not need power to become great. All they truly need is the love and support of there people to become great. Without the support of a nations citizens the mighty will fall and the palaces will crumble to dust.

  1. I thought that this was a very interesting point and good comparison. The people who are rich and in power could have rationed food for everyone to eat instead of being greedy. I like the point that the government would get support from the people if the government was more compassionate towards them. A small act of donating food would show civilians they are cared about, and it would probably make them more supportive. Support from the people would help the government rise instead of fall.
