A major theme that I have been focusing on while watching the movie V for Vendetta is the idea of freedom. This link that I have shared as my outside source lets us as citizens of the united states think about the freedom that we have in our daily lives, and in comparison to the movie, it helps us to see how every country/ peoples' circumstances are different when it comes to freedom. Thus, the purpose in comparing the speeches of Obama and Reagan are to impose the idea of how freedom effects us in our daily lives and as we live as citizens. This adds to our understanding of the movie because in the film, Evey Hammond, the protagonist who is captured by V is essentially held hostage but Evey soon learns that V had staged her imprisonment and torture, putting
her through the same experiences that shaped him, and thus she comes to understand and accept her identity and freedom. Also, the idea of freedom is reiterated through which the town has a curfew where no one is allowed to leave after hours. Moreover, the idea of freedom is a topic that is focused on in the movie, and as viewers this speech evaluation by Obama and Reagan helps us to evaluate the freedom that we are given, thus giving us a more personal connection with Evey and the townspeople in the movie.
