Why Don't We Complain?
I find the reading insightful and beautifully written. I particularly enjoyed the ironic and funny parts of this piece but I also appreciated the underlying story, the point of his article. Society has become an institution where people are afraid to voice their complaints because they believe that someone else would do it for them, they don't want the hassle, they don't want to be marked as a too assertive, or a nuisance to the community. Many people believe that being assertive is being rude, however sometimes this is the only way to get things done. You can't be afraid to fight or speak out for your rights and you can't be afraid to want to change something even if everyone else seems to be fine with the problem. Basically, in the words of The Beastie Boys, "(You've gotta) fight for your right (to party)".
I really like this post and can connect with you about this topic, I also feel as if people now days are scared to voice their opinions. I think that people (like you said) will assume someone else will stand up for their issue and just let it be, but tif everyone does that, nothing will ever happen and nothing will ever change. We need to be more assertive, but not rude about it, just use your voice to change things you do not agree on.
