Comedy is Translation

Self Reflection

I really enjoyed the Ted talk this week. I have always been a huge advocate for sarcasm or better known as Comedy. Chris Bliss explained how comedy is a translation of words. At first, when engaging in a conversation, if you use a comedic attitude towards another person then it will increase their endorphins released in their bodies and will generally make that person more acceptable of you and what you are saying. Using comedy in conversation also leaves people feeling better than they were before they engaged in the conversation with you. I can completely understand what Bliss was explaining because i have a good friend who is an all around comfortable person to hangout with. People love him because of his attitude towards others. He comes off as very easy going and uses comedy to lighten the mood of the conversation. Plenty of times i have seen people walking away from him with a big smile on their face. Another issue that Bliss brought up is how since you are comfortable while listening to comedy you can retain more information mentally through comedic acts. He used the example of how John Stewart's viewers are more updated on the world's news, than just regular news watchers. Overall the Ted talk was very intriguing to me.
