TED Talk- Texting

After watching the TED Talk today on how language and speech is evolving to a more casual tone due to "writing the way we speak" instead of "speaking the way we write," it made me think about the way society interacts on a daily basis.  The speaker in the TED video showed examples of LOL and how when people are texting it is thrown around very causally to set a certain tone for the conversation even if what is being said is not funny.  I see my self do this when I am texting as well, and I almost wish that technology wasn't changing the way that we interact so much because it is evident that as the years go on, people are becoming less communicative face to face and more so through technology which makes it very impersonal and harder to understand what is being communicated. I do like the idea of writing the way we speak because it makes what we write more personal and self reflective rather than BSing a bunch of words on a paper to seem more intelligent. But, I think that technology is weakening our sense of communication and strength in speech and language and it will be very interesting seeing what we will be talking like in many years to come.
